Research in AMS

Undergraduate Programs
The Department of Applied Mathematics & Statistics has a strong emphasis on research, both internally, and collaboratively. Internally, our faculty members have formed several collaborative research groups in Applied Mathematics, and Statistics. Additionally, our faculty members are active in many of the Research Centers that exist on campus to support interdisciplinary research. These research efforts have included both undergraduate and graduate students depending on need and interest.

Research areas within the department include scattering theory, numerical analysis, mathematical finance, symbolic computing, wave propagation, biostatistics, seismic data processing, and educational assessment.

The departmental research groups include

  • Assessment and Evaluation in Education - a mathematics education group formed to improve the methodologies used by evaluators in the assessment of educational interventions in the sciences.
  • AMS Statistics - a statistics group whose general interests lie in the area of the application of statistics to the physical sciences.
