A paper (https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.adw8997) co-authored by Dr. Dorit Hammerling and Mines colleagues Elizabeth Holley, Karlie Hadden, Rod Eggert, Erik Spiller, and Priscilla Nelson, and published in the prestigious journal Science, was recently cited during a U.S. House Natural Resources Committee hearing.
The Committee discussion, focused on byproduct recovery and critical mineral opportunities, included bipartisan recognition of Mines’ leadership in this area. Importantly, the research directly informed an amendment requiring a federal report on barriers to byproduct production on public lands, along with recommendations to Congress on how to reduce those barriers.
The amendment follows meetings with both majority and minority Committee staff last week where Mines research was highlighted.
“It’s great to see Mines research informing bipartisan approaches to critical mineral policy,” said Andrew Lattanner, Director of Federal Relations, CSM.
The full 6:30 clip from the hearing, including remarks from Congresswoman Yasmin Ansari (D-AZ), Chairman Bruce Westerman (R-AR), and Congressman Pete Stauber (R-MN) is available here:
