Research

The Department of Applied Mathematics and Statistics has a strong emphasis on research, both internally and collaboratively. Internally, our faculty members have formed several collaborative research groups in Applied Mathematics and Statistics.

Applied Mathematics and Wave Phenomena

Computational and Global Seismology

Computational Mathematics and Analysis

Mathematical Biology and Biostatistics

Optimization and Deep Learning

Statistics and Data Science

Affiliated Centers and Laboratories

Additionally, our faculty members are active in many of the Research Centers that exist on campus to support interdisciplinary research. These research efforts have included both undergraduate and graduate students depending on need and interest.

Center for Wave Phenomena

The Center for Wave Phenomena (CWP) supports an interdisciplinary (geophysics, mathematics) research and educational program in seismic exploration. The main focus of the program is in seismic modeling, migration, and inversion methods and accurate and efficient computational methods for seismic data processing, primarily for application to regions of structural complexity.

CWP meets on Mondays from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM in CoorsTek 140.

For more information, please contact Eileen Martin.

Spatial Data Science

This group meets every 2nd Monday of every month from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM.

For more information, please contact Dr. Soutir Bandyopadhyay.

Spatial Statistics & Kernel Klub

This group meets Wednesdays from 1-2 in Chauvenet Hall room 143 and virtually to discuss spatial statistics and kernel methods. To stay up to date on our meetings, please join the mailing list by emailing Sweta Rai. To see the schedule of speakers, click here.
